Just got back from the pediatrician, and the little guy has done GREAT! This was his 2-week (and 2-day) appointment, and we were specifically watching his weight. He's up to 9 lbs. 4 oz, and the Dr. says he couldn't look better. He's gained 10 ounces since LAST Wednesday (better than the ounce a day they wanted him to gain), and he's just 6 ozs. away from his original fighting weight of 9 lbs. 10 oz! We're all breathing a sigh of relief....
Time to eat again!!

The Big Man's First Week
Evan is 9 days old today and this is the first chance I've had to sit down and write/post some photos - luckily Dave's been filling in for me here! We're feeling great today because Evan has gained 2 ounces since his weigh-in on Monday. He had lost a full pound before he left the hospital, so we were concerned. We've got a good feeding plan in place now and he's scheduled to go back to the Dr. for his regular 2-week appointment.
Evan is SUCH a calm little guy. He only cries when he's hungry (and sometimes when he's wet), and otherwise spends a good deal of time just looking around. He loves his sleep - which I think is part of the reason he lost so much weight! The first night home he slept over 4 hours without waking. Now we're waking him up every 3 hours to eat.
I don't think we would have been so paranoid about the weight issue had he not spent 2 nights in the NICU. A few hours after he was born he developed a really distended belly, so they sent him down for some x-rays, which showed a lot of gas and a lot of poop! Eventually they were able to rule out any anatomical problems in his digestive tract, and once he started pooping, his belly went down to normal size. He got to come back upstairs to my room for the last 2 nights of our stay...we were thrilled to get him back and to be able to take him home with us.
Syd had a WHIRLWIND week. She was off for April vacation, so had lots of time to spare. She slept over 2 nights with Grammy and Papa, and one night each with her 2 different sets of cousins. Throw in a couple of play dates, meals out with Daddy, and a trip to the movies and you get one physically and emotionally exhausted kid. By Sunday night she was completely off the wall. School Monday was the best thing to happen to her. It will be nice to get all of us back on a regular schedule.
Syd has proven herself to be pretty helpful! She loved being Evan's back-seat babysitter on the way home from the hospital, and in most cases will fetch whatever it is that I need when I ask her. She thinks Evan's pretty cute and is excited to show him off to all of her friends...
Well, one and half hours til the next feeding - time for a catnap!

Now all we need is the baby....

We've been officially ready for a couple of weeks now. Here's how the baby's room came out. We had some discussions about whether or not to do the white circle border where the brown meets the blue, but I figured it's just paint! If we really didn't like it we can just paint over it.
The whole doggie theme came from an adorable outfit my friend Mary gave me that had a Dachshound theme. I searched high and low for fabric with the right colors and sort of retro look that I was going for, and found it online. I made the 3 cornices/sets of curtain panels, and I still want to do a couple of pillows and maybe a wall hanging with the remaining fabric.

Dance recital photos below....
I didn't realize Dave had electronic versions of these files on the computer! These were from last year's dance recital, so they're almost a whole year old. We had LOTS of trouble picking which poses we wanted prints of -- and unfortunately Syd's eye make up (!) is a little smudgy in some of the shots. But these are too cute not to share - even if they're not new!!
